New article: taking control of the iPlayer
November 26th, 2008 2 Comments
The BBC iPlayer is a great bit of technology, but it's also a peer-to-peer file sharing client and sometimes you don't want lots of data being uploaded from your computer when you're trying to use that bandwidth for something else.
I've just added an article (my first since revamping this site) that describes how to take control of the iPlayer's KService Windows service and the iPlayer program itself: khost.exe.

really helpful
the "C:\Program Files\Kontiki\KHost.exe" prpgram is also used by the Channel 4OD peer2peer software. so when you use the STOP KSERVICE it kills both.
I have created three shortcuts/batch files - 1 to start iPlayer, 1 to start 4OD and 1 to stop then all.

Thanks for commenting Mark.
I haven't tried 4OD since it first appeared. At that point there was very little on it to watch for free so I uninstalled it pretty quickly. Maybe I should take another look.
